Near by walking: everything in Thamel
Thread the needle into Thamel and you’ll find Or2k, an Israeli establishment that has a decent array of Nepali (nice veggie fritters), western (pizza and spaghetti for instance) and Israeli food. The falafel is notably the best I’ve had. I especially enjoyed a mushroom and veggie stuffed pita that easily made a dinner-sized portion. The pizza was sufficiently crusty and had sliced tomatoes. The pakoras were excellently put together, just the right mixture of veggie and flour, more than well held together. The spaghetti pleased the younger set to no end. The momo’s, both steamed and fried, were in the top three or four restaurants I’ve tried. In short, I’ve nothing bad to say about the food. So much so that I forgot to photograph most of it.
The ambiance of Or2K must be taken in context. This restaurant is a converted rooftop, much like many of the other places in Thamel. The crowd, like so many who’ve eaten lotus flowers from greek myths, seem to be wayward souls that might be on their way to somewhere…Israel, Everest…if only they would hurry up. So, as in Rome, take your time and enjoy the scenery.
